Two new activities coming to Community Centre

Two new activities coming to Community Centre

Carpet Bowls Club
Every Friday, 2pm - 4pm. Starting Friday 9 September

Thanks to funding from the Hospital of God and the enthusiasm of members of the Luncheon Club, Hexham Community Centre are delighted to be starting their own Carpet Bowls Club.

The club will meet every Friday (starting Friday 9 September) from 2pm until 4pm. All abilities are welcome, beginners can learn the ropes from the more experienced players, and those looking for some friendly competition will be able to take part in a game or two each week.

Jill Goodfellow, the manager at Hexham Community Centre, said "Starting the Carpet Bowls Club is going to be great for the Community Centre, providing a social and active group for members of our local community"

The purchase of the equipment was funded by Hospital of God, a North East based charity helping communities across the ancient diocese of Durham. There will be two carpets set out each week, for up to 16 players to play in teams of four.

The Welcome Committee
Every 2nd and 4th Monday, 7pm - 9pm. Starting Monday 12 September

The Welcome Committee aims to connect people to each other and to the local groups and activities available in Tynedale. Whether they are new to the area, or living in a new situation and looking for a new past time, and people to enjoy it with.

Everyone is welcome. The group exists to bring people together who might otherwise not have met. It can be incredbily daunting trying something new, and even more so to do it alone. If you are new to the area, or have found your social circle changing due to remote working or retirement, bereavement or seperation, or for any other reason, you may be struggling to engage with all the wonderful organisations, groups and societies available in (or near) Hexham.

Every other Monday the Welcome Committee will be joined by a representative from a local group or business to talk about what it is they do, whether that be a local cinema or music venue talking about their upcoming programme, or a fitness group leader introducing the benefits of taking part in their activity.

If you are inspired to try something new there will be plenty of time to meet with other members of the group and arrange to go to something together.
